Answer: Losantiville. The hybrid name meant “the town opposite the mouth of the Licking River.” L (”Licking”), plus os (Latin for “mouth”), plus anti (Greek for “opposite”), and ville (French for “town”). Losantiville was renamed Cincinnati in 1790.
