Article Icon 1NE Ohio Braces for Winter Weather

A winter storm watch for Ashtabula, Geauga, and Lake counties in Northeast Ohio will take effect Thanksgiving morning and continue through Friday evening.

Lake-effect snow is expected to cover the Great Lakes region, and strong winds could create periods of whiteout conditions.

“Lake-effect snow will push south off of Lake Erie during the day Thursday, intensifying through the afternoon and evening hours when snow may quickly accumulate on untreated surfaces,” the National Weather Service said.

Sinclair Broadcast Group submitted an unsolicited $7-per-share bid to take over Cincinnati-based rival E.W. Scripps.

Maryland-based Sinclair currently owns about 10% of Scripps’ Class A common stock. Under the proposal, the company would acquire all of Scripps’ shares.

Scripps said its board will review the proposal. Sinclair requested a response by Dec. 5.

Scripps owns about 60 stations in 40 markets, compared to Sinclair’s approximately 180 stations in 80 markets.

A Maumee man pleaded guilty to sending prison inmates books soaked with methamphetamine.

The books included a copy of Vice President JD Vance’s Hillbilly Elegy, a memoir about Appalachian culture that also details his mother’s drug addiction.

Austin Siebert, 30, received a sentence of nearly 12 years in prison.

The books were packaged as Amazon deliveries and sent to inmates at Grafton Correctional Institution in Grafton. Authorities recorded Siebert discussing the shipments with an inmate.
