University Hospital Opens

The Ohio State University opened its new University Hospital on Sunday, moving the first patients into the hospital’s 820 private rooms.

The hospital also features 24 operating rooms, 234 intensive care unit beds, the region’s only Level 4 maternity center, and 24/7 dining options.

The largest single-facility construction project in the university’s history spans 1.9 million square feet across 26 stories and will house about 12,000 employees.

On Sunday, the Ohio Nurses Association protested outside of the hospital, demanding the removal of Les Wexner’s name from the school’s medical buildings and other campus sites following the release of an FBI document linking him to Jeffrey Epstein.

Drone Races Draw Thousands

Thousands of people attended the seventh annual Micro Drone Race, hosted at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton as part of the museum’s yearlong celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Sixty-four micro drone pilots competed in three classes, racing their drones through obstacle courses in the Korean War Gallery.

Spectators watched from designated viewing areas and large monitors that included a pilot-eye view of the races, captured directly from the drones.

This summer, the museum will host the Lift Challenge, a drone-building competition where engineers will vie for $6.5 million in prizes by building heavy-lifting drones and navigating an air course.

Wetter Spring Forecast

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center updated its March-through-May seasonal outlook, showing a potential for wetter conditions with no clear signal for unusual warmth or cold.

Meanwhile, The Old Farmer’s Almanac forecasts that the last frost for most of the state will arrive near its typical window, usually late April in central Ohio. You can view the almanac’s nationwide map of predicted last frosts here.
