Browns Start Site Work

The Cleveland Browns began infrastructure work Monday on their planned domed stadium and mixed-use district in Brook Park, starting with mass excavation at the site.

Calling the $2.4 billion project the largest construction job in Cuyahoga County history, the team’s ownership also released updated plans for the stadium, apartment complex, retail areas, and more.

The team plans to host an official groundbreaking ceremony on April 30, with the stadium scheduled to open in 2029.

The project has drawn controversy, triggering legal disputes, including an ongoing lawsuit over the state’s proposal to use unclaimed funds to help pay for the stadium.

AES Bought in $33.4B Deal

A four-company investment consortium will acquire AES Ohio’s parent company AES Corp. in a $33.4 billion deal that would take the utility private.

AES said the deal would help it meet “significant demand” for power in Ohio and Indiana.

AES Ohio would continue to be locally managed and operated, and the company said customer rates aren’t expected to change.

The deal is expected to close in late 2026 or early 2027, subject to approval by stockholders and regulators.

New Owner Mulls BrewDog’s Future

BrewDog, a Scottish brewer with U.S. operations based in the Columbus area, sold its brand and United Kingdom operations to New York-based Tilray Brands for $44 million.

Tilray Brands is reportedly negotiating separate deals for BrewDog’s assets in the U.S. and Australia, with workers concerned. In the United Kingdom, Tilray Brands closed 38 bars and cut 484 jobs.

BrewDog, founded in 2007 and once valued in the billions of dollars, established its U.S. headquarters in the Columbus suburb of Canal Winchester a decade ago.
