Article Icon 1Ohio Firm Linked to Noem Ad Campaign

The Strategy Group, a conservative advertising agency based in Lewis Center, told Reuters it received $226,000 from the $220 million spent on former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s immigration enforcement advertising campaign.

Noem claimed President Trump had approved the $220 million advertising project, but Trump disputed that account, saying, “I wasn’t thrilled with it. I spent less money than that to become president. I didn’t know about it.”

Strategy Group CEO Ben Yoho is married to outgoing DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin. Noem previously hired the firm for a multimillion-dollar ad campaign when she was governor of South Dakota.

In a social media statement, the company said it never held a direct contract with DHS, but instead worked as a subcontractor for Safe America, a conservative media company that secured a DHS contract.

Article Icon 1Meyer Blasts NIL Collectives at White House

Former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer on Friday voiced concerns at the White House about name, image, and likeness (NIL) collectives during President Trump’s college sports roundtable.

Meyer said NIL collectives amount to “cheating,” arguing that donors “put money into a pot” and distribute it to players based on talent instead of compensating athletes for the actual use of their likenesses, such as in commercials. He also discussed extending antitrust protections for college sports.

Trump said he plans to issue an executive order addressing the concerns raised during the meeting, which also included concerns from former Alabama coach Nick Saban that it’s “impossible” to provide students with adequate personal and academic support in the current college sports environment.

Along with Meyer, more than 30 other panelists, Trump Cabinet members, and six elected officials—including U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana—took part in the roundtable.

Article Icon 1Thornton Breaks OSU Scoring Record

Ohio State guard Bruce Thornton became the program’s all-time leading scorer Saturday, passing Dennis Hopson’s 2,096 career points during the Buckeyes’ 91-78 win over Indiana.

Thornton, the only four-time captain in school history, drilled a 3-pointer just before halftime to give Ohio State a 50-32 lead over the Hoosiers. He finished with a team-high 25 points.

Ohio State’s win over Indiana likely locked up an NCAA Tournament berth for the Buckeyes, capping a strong week that included an upset of No. 8 Purdue, a 32-point rout of Penn State, and a 13-point victory over fellow bubble team Indiana.

The Buckeyes also secured the No. 8 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, earning a double bye. A win in their first game would set up a rematch against rival No. 1 seed Michigan.
