Article Icon 1ICE Agents Deployed to Airport

Federal immigration agents were deployed to Cleveland Hopkins International on Monday to help manage long security lines during the partial federal government shutdown.

White House border czar Tom Homan said Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents would help TSA provide airport security, but wouldn’t participate in baggage screening.

Cleveland Hopkins is the only Ohio airport currently included in ICE deployments.

Other major airports receiving ICE support include Chicago O’Hare International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The move comes amid a large number of call-offs nationally by TSA agents, who are working without pay during the partial government shutdown.

A fire that broke out Sunday night at the Fuyao Glass America factory in Moraine was still burning Monday as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

No deaths or injuries were reported at the plant, which employs more than 2,000 people.

Firefighters paused efforts to extinguish the fire overnight Sunday due to thunderstorms moving through the area. Crews faced 45-mph winds that hampered water spraying.

Thousands of AEP Ohio customers lost power overnight Sunday into Monday as thunderstorms swept through central Ohio. Fewer than 200 remained without power as of Monday night.

The storms brought up to half-dollar-sized hail to the region. You can see photos of the hail here.

The power outages follow windstorms earlier this month that caused heavy damage and left half a million Ohioans without power.
