Article Icon 1Bill Would End State Taxes on Capital Gains

State Rep. Tom Young, R-Washington Township, introduced legislation that would eliminate state taxes on capital gains, the profits from selling stocks, bonds, or real estate.

Young argued House Bill 617 would encourage investment in Ohio.

If the legislation passes, Ohio could lose up to $680 million annually in tax revenue, according to a Legislative Service Commission analysis. Young said the cost over time would be closer to half that figure.

Republican governor candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has proposed eliminating taxes on state capital gains as part of a plan to abolish the state’s income tax.

Kroger is building two more stores in central Ohio and renovating others across the state as part of an investment the company called “record-breaking.”

In Canal Winchester, the Cincinnati-based company broke ground on a store last week. The location is set to open in late fall, creating approximately 250 jobs and featuring a fuel center.

In Delaware County, a store currently under construction is expected to open in early fall, adding more than 220 jobs to one of the fastest-growing areas in the state.

In addition to the new locations, Kroger plans to invest about $24 million in renovations at numerous stores across Ohio, including in New Albany, Toledo, and Lancaster.

Article Icon 1ICE Focus of School District Dispute

Forest Hills Local School District officials asked the Ohio Supreme Court to dismiss a lawsuit seeking the release of their response plan for potential federal immigration enforcement at a school.

Cincinnati attorney Curt Hartman filed the lawsuit, arguing the state law cited by the district protects only information tied to sabotage or terrorism. He likened the school board members to protesters who try to obstruct immigration enforcement.

School board members, who met in February to discuss how to respond to potential Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions, said releasing the unredacted plan could jeopardize student safety.

A Final, Stern Warning For Retirees

Economists point to the “Expectations Index” as a key signal of America’s financial health. When the Index is below 80, it’s a major warning sign that a recession is near. In January, it fell to 65.

This isn’t just a dip, it’s a declaration. Our economy relies on a strong job market and confident consumers buying goods. In 2026, America’s working class is cutting non-essential spending.

An HR executive reports: “A worried and distracted workforce, whose concerns have them in ‘survival mode.‘” This “crisis of confidence” may impact those near retirement the most. It indicates deep, structural stress in the framework that supports your 401(k)s and IRAs.

Most 401(k)s and IRAs are designed for “fair weather.” They thrive when the economy is booming. They are not built to withstand the pressure of “a 12-year low in consumer confidence.” Gold is the “foul weather” fund. When expectations drop and paper markets begin to crumble, the rich often turn to physical gold and silver to preserve their wealth.

Download the FREE 2026 Gold Investing Guide, and we’ll give you the step-by-step process that can protect your retirement savings from this crumbling economy.
