Storm Leaves Millions in Damage

Last week’s severe weather caused millions of dollars in damage in northeast Ohio, as golf-ball-sized hail and wind gusts topping 60 mph swept through the region.

Auto dealerships were among those hard hit, including Davis Automotive Group in Solon, where more than 350 vehicles suffered an estimated $20 million in damage. In Bedford, Ken Ganley Subaru and Volkswagen plan to hold a hail sale, offering steep discounts on damaged vehicles.

Elsewhere in Solon, the police department reported that 20 of their 30 vehicles were damaged.

Lawmakers Target Local Gun Limits

The state Senate passed legislation to curb municipal gun control measures that Republican lawmakers say violate the Second Amendment.

Municipalities already are barred from enacting gun control measures more restrictive than state law. Under the new legislation, cities could be sued for damages for illegal gun control ordinances.

“With this legislation, it is my hope that we impose potential financial repercussions for these cities who so frivolously trample on the rights of their residents,” said state Sen. Terry Johnson, R-McDermott.

Opponents, such as Sen. Kent Smith, D-Euclid, said the bill “seeks to punish those who are charged with solving the problems of gun violence.”

Bengals Trade Top 10 Pick

Days before the NFL draft, the Cincinnati Bengals traded their No. 10 overall pick to the New York Giants in exchange for Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.

Lawrence, who spent seven seasons in New York, requested a trade after failing to reach an agreement with the Giants on a new contract.

Lawrence passed his physical and signed a contract extension with Cincinnati, keeping him under team control through the 2028 season.

It’s the first time in the common draft era that the Bengals have traded a top-10 pick for a player. As things stand, this year’s draft will be the first since 1989 that the team won’t make a first-round pick.
