Article Icon 1Ohio AG Shields Local TV News

Ohio Attorney Gen. Dave Yost reached a settlement with Nexstar Media Group, requiring the broadcaster to maintain editorial independence at Cleveland’s WKYC and Columbus’ WBNS through 2030.

The deal comes amid Nexstar’s $6.2 billion acquisition of Tegna, giving the company a second station in each of Ohio’s two largest markets. Nexstar already owned WJW in Cleveland and NBC4 in Columbus.

Under the memorandum of understanding, both stations must keep separate news teams and independent editorial control, with ownership barred from directing coverage decisions or consolidating newsrooms.

Nexstar must also preserve current levels of local programming at both stations for the full term of the agreement. Ohio negotiated protections rather than joining a coalition of 13 state attorneys general that filed suit to block the merger outright.

Cincinnati ultrarunner Harvey Lewis runs his 100th marathon today at the Flying Pig as Lewis, who has competed in some of the world’s most grueling ultramarathons, chose the Flying Pig because of his deep ties to Cincinnati and the race’s 28-year history.

“I knew immediately I was going to have to do my 100th marathon at the Flying Pig,” he said. “No question about it.”

Course changes this year detour runners further south through Newport and Covington, bypassing Queensgate, and bring them back into Cincinnati via the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge onto 3rd Street, then Vine Street and 7th Street, before climbing toward Eden Park.

The 28th annual race draws thousands of runners to downtown Cincinnati streets, with the full marathon, half-marathon, 10K, and 5K all running simultaneously on Sunday morning.

The Cleveland Cavaliers host the Toronto Raptors in a winner-take-all Game 7 tonight at Rocket Arena. It’s the culmination of a first-round series in which the home team has won every game.

RJ Barrett’s three-pointer bounced off the back rim and through the net with 1.2 seconds left in overtime Friday, handing Toronto a 112-110 win and erasing Cleveland’s 3-2 series lead.

A Cavs win moves Cleveland on and a Raptors win ends the Cavs’ season. Toronto hasn’t reached the second round since 2020.
