Several Tornadoes Strike Ohio

At least eight tornadoes struck Ohio on Tuesday as severe storms damaged homes and buildings, flooded roads, knocked out power, and left debris strewn across several counties.

Two tornadoes touched down in Muskingum County: an EF1 with estimated peak winds of 105 mph in Duncan Falls and an EF0 south of Blue Rock State Forest. In northeast Ohio, an EF0 traveled 6.18 miles across Trumbull and Mahoning counties with peak winds of 85 mph, and video captured it touching down.

In southwest Ohio, an EF1 tore through Clermont County, carving a path nearly 5 miles long and damaging trees and property. EF0 tornadoes also touched down in Brown and Clinton counties, while two more hit Washington County before continuing into West Virginia.

In Newark, a microburst ripped the roof from a church and drove a tree through an insurance office moments after an employee stepped away from her desk.

Trump Honors Denison Champions

President Trump welcomed four Denison University championship programs to the White House on Tuesday, honoring an unprecedented run of NCAA Division III titles during the 2025-26 academic year.

The women’s basketball and men’s swimming and diving teams won national championships on the same day in March. The baseball team followed with a 4-3, 10-inning victory over Endicott in June, making Denison the first Ohio Division III program to capture three NCAA team titles in three sports during one academic year.

Men’s tennis players Ethan Green and Kael Shah added the Division III doubles championship in May.

The White House shared video of the visit, which featured athletes from each championship program.

Bison Calf Joins Ohio Herd

Ohio’s newest resident was born Monday morning at the Appalachian Hills Wildlife Area—the bison herd’s first calf since the animals arrived in southeastern Ohio this spring.

The calf stood and walked within hours, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Young bison are sometimes called “red dogs” because of their reddish coats, which will darken as they mature.

The herd has lived at the nearly 55,000-acre wildlife area since April. The grazing animals help manage the area’s grasslands by encouraging native plant diversity, limiting invasive growth, and creating varied habitat for other species.

Visitors can see the new calf from the observation deck at the Appalachian Hills Visitor Center in McConnelsville. You can watch a video of the young bison exploring its new home here.
