ICE Prepares for Ohio Haitian Arrests

Federal immigration officials are preparing to increase arrests and deportations of Haitian migrants in Ohio cities, including Springfield, as Temporary Protected Status ends today.

The Supreme Court cleared the way last month for President Trump’s administration to terminate the program, affecting an estimated 350,000 Haitians nationwide, including about 45,000 living in Ohio.

Officials estimate that 10,000 to 12,000 Haitians live in the Springfield area alone. Federal officials haven’t yet announced a timetable for enforcement, though operations could begin as early as this week.

Rifle Fire Briefly Closes I-71

An 18-year-old man was arrested early Sunday after deputies responded to reports of a man with a rifle beside a vehicle on northbound Interstate 71 in Hamilton County, briefly shutting the highway’s northbound lanes.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived near mile marker 9.4 at about 5 a.m., where they arrested Aaron Phelan and recovered a loaded rifle and spent casings.

No injuries were reported, and investigators hadn’t determined what Phelan was shooting at. Authorities said there was no evidence motorists were targeted.

Phelan faces charges of aggravated menacing and discharging a firearm on prohibited premises. Investigators are examining whether drugs or alcohol were involved, and his arraignment is scheduled for this morning.

Crew Win Sparks Rivalry Clash

The Columbus Crew defeated FC Cincinnati 2-1 in Saturday’s Hell is Real derby, but a stoppage-time foul produced a heated finish and a postgame confrontation in the tunnel.

Kévin Denkey scored for Cincinnati in the ninth minute, Jamal Thiaré equalized in the 42nd, and Dániel Gazdag converted a first-half penalty kick that proved decisive.

Cincinnati midfielder Gerardo Valenzuela received a red card for violent conduct after fouling Crew forward Taha Habroune during second-half stoppage time. The challenge sparked an on-field scuffle.

Tensions followed the teams into the tunnel, where players exchanged words and staff intervened. Video showed no physical confrontation, and Crew defender Mo Farsi said afterward that the scene wasn’t the example the players wanted to set for young fans.
