Article Icon 1Toledo Blade Sets December Closure

The Toledo Blade will permanently end publication Dec. 31 and lay off 116 employees unless a buyer emerges, according to a notice filed with the state Friday.

Founded in 1835, the paper has been a Toledo fixture for nearly 200 years and won a Pulitzer Prize in 2004 for investigative reporting.

Owner Block Communications warned in September that years of financial losses were “simply not sustainable.”

That warning came after Toledo NewsGuild members voted 46-25 to reject a proposed contract that the union said would’ve reduced severance for senior staff and lacked job protections against artificial intelligence.

A CSX train jumped the tracks near Manhattan and Wallace boulevards in north Toledo on Friday, injuring no one and leaking no hazardous materials.

The derailed locomotive was carrying about 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel, so firefighters set up precautionary fire lines while an environmental contractor worked to drain the engine.

The train’s conductor got off safely, and officials said that it will be “quite some time before we figure out a cause.”

CSX expects East Manhattan Boulevard to stay closed two to three days, and nearby Canadian National tracks were also shut down.

Article Icon 1Bearcats Stun No. 8 Texas Tech

Cincinnati upset No. 8 Texas Tech 37-24 Saturday, handing the Red Raiders their first loss and earning the Bearcats’ first home win over a top-10 team since 2006.

Cole Tabb ran for a career-high 173 yards and JC French IV threw a career-high four touchdown passes as Cincinnati scored 21 second-quarter points to build a 24-6 halftime lead. Tabb sealed the win with a 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The matchup carried added history after Brendan Sorsby, Cincinnati’s starting quarterback last season, transferred to Texas Tech but never played a down before parting ways with the program following a gambling investigation. Bearcats fans chanted his name during the game.

Ohio churches are showing up. Here’s one way you can join them.

In 2025, Prison Fellowship brought church leaders and volunteers together for its national conference at an Ohio church. It’s a reminder that this mission has people behind it right here in our state.

And there’s a simple way for you to take part.

There are men and women in Ohio prisons who want a Bible but don’t have access to one. Through Prison Fellowship, your gift helps put God’s Word into the hands of someone seeking guidance, forgiveness, and a fresh start.

You don’t need to know their story to help them begin a new chapter. You can start by helping provide something they’ve asked for.

Help send a Bible today.
