Article Icon 1Peltz Group Bids $1.4B for Wendy’s

A group of investors led by billionaire Nelson Peltz’s Trian Fund Management offered to buy Wendy’s for $1.4 billion in a proposal that would take the struggling Dublin-based burger chain private.

Trian, already Wendy’s largest shareholder, is teaming up with BlueFive Capital, Sixth Street Partners, and major franchisee Flynn Group. The group said going private would give the chain room for a costly multiyear turnaround.

Founded in downtown Columbus in 1969, Wendy’s has posted six straight quarters of declining same-store sales.

The all-cash bid of $7.35 per share is a 20% premium over Tuesday’s closing price, and shares jumped about 15% in Wednesday morning trading.

Article Icon 1Moreno Targets Columbus Nursing Deal

U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, pressed Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther on Wednesday about a city partnership with Ghana aimed at improving nursing education and creating legal pathways for Ghanaian nurses to join Ohio’s workforce.

In a letter to Ginther, Moreno said the $225,000 in city funding for the partnership is part of roughly $8.3 million the mayor has “lit on fire to benefit noncitizens and foreign governments” since taking office.

On social media, Moreno argued that taxpayer dollars should fund training for American nurses rather than importing “cheap labor from overseas.”

Ginther signed the nursing partnership agreement in September, saying Ghana has trained nursing professionals who “can migrate legally to enter a ready market in Columbus,” according to a press release from the government of Ghana.

Article Icon 1Court Ends $900M Pandemic Benefits Case

The Ohio Supreme Court refused to reconsider a lawsuit claiming more than 300,000 Ohioans are owed $900 million in pandemic unemployment benefits, effectively ending a legal fight that began in 2021.

The workers argued Gov. Mike DeWine overstepped his authority by ending the extra $300 weekly federal payments early without legislative approval, while the state said the money discouraged people from returning to work.

An appeals court sided with the workers in 2025, but the justices dismissed the case as moot in August because the federal program had ended.
