OSU to Require AI Literacy for Undergraduates

Starting this fall, every Ohio State University student will engage with artificial intelligence through the AI Fluency initiative, integrating AI education across every major.

The program, which will prioritize incoming freshmen, includes seminars on AI and the integration of generative AI into general education courses.

Six university offices will oversee the effort, offering faculty support and guidance to ensure academic integrity as AI tools become part of the curriculum.

“In the not-so-distant future, every job, in every industry, is going to be impacted in some way by AI,” OSU President Ted Carter said.

Michaels Acquires Joann Brands

Michaels has acquired the intellectual property and private label brands of Hudson-based Joann, including Big Twist yarns, to expand its fabric, sewing, and yarn selection.

In February, Joann announced it would close all 790 of its stores after filing for bankruptcy in January.

Michaels plans to add more than 600 new products, including fabrics and sewing machines. Big Twist yarns and other Joann brands will appear in Michaels stores and online later this year.

The company has launched a dedicated landing page to welcome former Joann customers.

Fireworks Blamed for House Explosion

Three people were critically injured in a house explosion in Liberty on Saturday, which fire officials suspect was caused by illegal fireworks.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud boom that shook nearby homes, prompting residents to be evacuated while the bomb squad checked for additional explosives.

Liberty Fire Chief Douglas Theobald said the damaged house would be demolished at the conclusion of the investigation.
