Question: Where is the oldest continuously operated lighthouse on the Great Lakes?
Answer: Marblehead, Ohio. The Marblehead Lighthouse, first illuminated in 1822, is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
Benajah Wolcott, a Revolutionary War veteran, served as the first lighthouse keeper. Civilians operated the lighthouse through World War II, until the U.S. Coast Guard assumed control in 1946. Ownership was transferred to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources in 1998.
