Teams Make Few Trade Moves

The Major League Baseball trade deadline passed Thursday, with the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guardians making only a handful of deals.

Cincinnati acquired third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes, pitcher Zack Littell, and utility player Miguel Andujar, but did not secure an everyday power hitter as many expected.

The Guardians dealt ace Shane Bieber to Toronto while keeping star outfielder Steven Kwan, despite persistent trade rumors.

The Reds trail first place in the NL Central by 7.5 games and the wild card by three. Cleveland is nine games back in the AL Central and 2.5 games out of a wild card spot. See the full MLB standings here.

State Answers Call for Policing Help 

Gov. Mike DeWine directed extra state highway patrol troopers to Cincinnati, responding to the city’s request for assistance with traffic enforcement and other public safety efforts amid a rise in violence.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati City Council President Pro Tem Victoria Parks stood by a Facebook comment in which she said victims of a downtown mob attack last weekend “begged for that beat down” and that she was “grateful for the whole story.”

Parks’ comments drew criticism from others on the panel, with council member Meeka Owens saying that Parks is entitled to her opinion but that advocating violence as retribution is “not beneficial to the city nor the region.”

List: Cheapest Grocery Stores

Grocery Outlet ranks as the most affordable grocery store in Ohio, a NetCredit study found.

Other chains offering prices below the state average include Save A Lot, Target, Kroger, Meijer Express Delivery, and Family Dollar. Maps and charts from the study can be seen here.

Ohio’s priciest grocery options, according to the study, include Fresh Thyme Real Convenience and Gordon Food Service, with prices 15% to 16% higher than the state average.

The study comes as more Ohio families turn to home gardening to offset rising grocery costs. Experts say gardening can provide financial savings and personal satisfaction.
