The U.S. Department of Energy awarded $2.7 billion to three companies, including one with a plant in Ohio, to support the development of domestic uranium enrichment supply chains.

American Centrifuge Operating, a subsidiary of Centrus Energy Corp. that makes centrifuges at its plant in Piketon, received $900 million.

In September, Centrus announced plans to add 300 jobs at its uranium enrichment plant in Piketon through an expansion that is also expected to create 1,000 construction jobs.

Centrus said it plans to use the federal funding to support the previously announced project, for which the company had already raised more than $1 billion.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is co-leading a coalition of 25 states challenging California’s restrictions on ammunition purchases, which the states call an attempt to undermine the Second Amendment.

Ohio and Idaho are leading the challenge to California laws that require background-checks for ammunition and require residents to pay $19 for a background check with each transaction. Ohio doesn’t require background-checks for ammunition purchases.

Yost and other attorneys general are urging the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to uphold an injunction blocking California from enforcing its background check requirements.

“California’s ammunition background-check and anti-importation provisions make firearms unusable to California residents unless they buy the state’s renewed permission to reload them every time they run low on ammunition,” the coalition’s amicus brief says.
