The city of Maumee asked the state Supreme Court to stop a recall effort targeting its mayor and six city council members.

The city argues its charter doesn’t permit recalls and that the recall petitions also failed to meet state requirements, including naming successors. Read the city’s complaint here.

The Lucas County Board of Elections certified the recall petitions in March. The petitions cited concerns over the local government’s transparency and sewer system management.

Ohio State redshirt freshman quarterback Julian Sayin completed 17 of 24 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown, leading the offense to a 50-31 victory over the defense in the Buckeyes’ annual spring football game.

The reigning national champions also received their championship rings during a ceremony between the first and second quarters. You can see photos of the rings here.

Sayin led three straight touchdown drives to open the game, while fellow quarterback Lincoln Kienholz threw for 158 yards and two scores. Six Buckeyes scored touchdowns in the scrimmage.

Article Icon 1Rare Civil War Flag to be Auctioned

A Confederate Army flag captured at the Battle of Gettysburg will be auctioned in Columbus later this month. You can see photos of the flag here.

Fleischer’s Auctions estimates the flag could sell for $150,000 or more.

The flag was carried by the 11th Virginia Infantry during Pickett’s Charge and was captured by an officer in the 16th Vermont Infantry.

The flag’s whereabouts remained mostly unknown for more than 150 years until 2021. It’s believed to be the only privately owned battle flag from Gen. George Pickett’s division.
