Article Icon 1Senior Living Center Rocked by Explosion

Several people were injured after an explosion at a senior living complex in Austintown on Saturday, and one person’s injuries were classified as “serious.”

The explosion happened around 12:45 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Phoenix House apartment building and left debris across the parking lot. You can see a photo of the damage here.

Residents described the blast as feeling like an earthquake or bomb, and they were bused to Austintown Elementary School while the Red Cross worked to find temporary housing.

The cause of the explosion was still under investigation as of Sunday afternoon.

Article Icon 1Rain Expected for Thanksgiving Travel

Heavy rain is expected across Ohio on Tuesday, with precipitation lingering on Wednesday as people hit the roads for holiday travel.

Northeast Ohio could see lake-effect snow on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday, while the rest of the state is expected to stay dry.

AAA said more than 3.4 million Ohioans plan to travel for Thanksgiving, up 2% from last year’s turkey day.

The organization also projects more than 82 million people nationwide will travel at least 50 miles from home between Nov. 25 and Dec. 1, the most ever for the Thanksgiving holiday. See the week’s forecast here.

Article Icon 1Marion Local Winning Streak Ends

Marion Local’s 76-game high school football winning streak—the longest in the nation—was snapped on Friday by Midwest Athletic Conference foe St. Henry.

The Redskins beat the Flyers 24-7 in the Division VII, Region 28 final. Marion Local last lost on Nov. 6, 2020, before going on to win four consecutive state titles.

St. Henry has won six state championships and is seeking its first since 2006. The Redskins will face Columbus Grove in the state semifinal on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Troy. See the OHSAA brackets here.
