Article Icon 1Locals Rally Behind Beaver’s Mini Mart

Online support is surging behind Beaver’s Mini Mart, with #BoycottBucees trending on social media, as the Beavercreek convenience store fights a federal trademark lawsuit from Buc-ee’s.

Buc-ee’s says it repeatedly tried to resolve the dispute before filing suit July 28, including two FedEx delivery attempts and one in-person attempt.

The lawsuit alleges the store’s name, red branding, and smiling cartoon beaver could confuse customers. Huber Heights Mayor Jeff Gore said that Buc-ee’s owner Arch Aplin told him that he had “no issues with Beavermart using the Beaver logo in Beavercreek,” but that the major chain doesn’t want Beavermarts “popping up across the state or regionally.”

A GoFundMe for legal fees benefiting the Beaver’s Mini Mart had raised more than $50,000 as of Saturday afternoon.

Gov. Mike DeWine issued three execution reprieves Friday, moving the scheduled executions of Keith LaMar, Scott Group, and Davel Chinn from 2027 to 2030.

DeWine said pharmaceutical suppliers remain unwilling to provide execution drugs to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

Ohio hasn’t carried out an execution since before DeWine took office in 2019, and previously postponed the executions of LaMar, Group, and Chinn earlier in his tenure.

In June, DeWine called on the state to abolish the death penalty.
