Question: Which baseball legend served as John Glenn’s wingman during combat missions in the Korean War?
Answer: Ted Williams, one of the greatest hitters in MLB history.
“I had been a baseball fan since I was a boy, and meeting Ted was a thrill,” Glenn wrote in his autobiography, John Glenn: A Memoir.
Despite serving during World War II and the Korean War, Williams was a 19-time All-Star, a two-time American League MVP, and a two-time Triple Crown winner. He remains the last MLB player to bat .400 in a season, finishing with a .406 average in 1941.
