Answer: Jerrie Mock was the first woman to fly solo around the world. She graduated from Newark High School and attended the Ohio State University, where she majored in aeronautical engineering. Mock took off from Port Columbus on March 19, 1964 and landed back in Columbus 29 days later on April 17.

On May 4, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson awarded Mock the Federal Aviation Administration’s Exceptional Service Decoration.
