Question: What was Dublin, Ohio, originally called?

Answer: Sells Town. The community was named for the Sells brothers of Pennsylvania, who acquired the land from Lt. James Holt. When John Sells platted the village in 1810, he allowed Irish surveyor John Shields to rename it. Shields chose Dublin in honor of his hometown in Ireland.
