Illegal Immigration Enforcement in Focus

Gov. Mike DeWine said federal agencies agreed to give at least 24 hours’ notice before any immigration enforcement push in Springfield, where thousands of Haitian immigrants reside.

Meanwhile, Republican state lawmakers introduced a legislative package that would enable local law enforcement to assist immigration enforcement agencies, with one lawmaker saying situations in Minnesota and elsewhere got “out of hand” for lack of cooperation.

Ohio Democrats proposed bills aimed at restricting illegal immigration enforcement in the state, including making hospitals and churches off-limits and a ban on agent masks.

Ohio Shines in Women’s Hockey

Former Ohio State women’s hockey forward Hannah Bilka scored twice as the U.S. rolled past Canada 5-0 in a preliminary-round Winter Olympics game.

Cleveland Heights native Laila Edwards added the lone third-period goal.

Elsewhere, Ohio State players Hilda Svensson and Jenna Raunio helped Sweden advance out of Group B, leading the team with four assists each.

The U.S. win marked the first time the Canadians had ever been shut out in the Olympics, as the Americans clinched the top seed in the quarterfinals with a 4-0 record in Group A.

Study: Ohio No. 21 for Alien Abduction Claims

A study ranks Ohio No. 21 in the nation for alien abduction claims, ahead of neighboring Michigan, Kentucky, and Indiana.

Canada Sports Betting’s Alien Abduction Odds Index based its rankings on reported UFO sightings and purported abductions, with Ohioans given a 1.13% chance of abduction.

“The implied probability is not a prediction…. It simply shows how often abduction-style reports have appeared in one region compared with others,” the analysts noted.

From 2019 to 2024, Ohio averaged one report per 11,300 residents, while New Hampshire topped the list at 24 reports per 100,000 residents. You can view the full report here.
