Cleveland Hopkins Briefly Halts Flights

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport paused airfield operations for about an hour Friday morning after a person being escorted by an airline contractor became separated from the contractor, airport officials said.

Airport security was notified, prompting safety personnel and law enforcement to sweep the area before confirming it was secure.

The FAA listed Hopkins as closed from 5:51 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, and identified runways 6L and 6R in the notice. However, the listing had been removed by 6:48 a.m.

Ohio Groups Respond to Nepal Flooding

Matthew 25: Ministries, a Blue Ash-based humanitarian aid group, is working with local partners to deliver relief to communities devastated by flooding and mudslides along the Nepal-China border.

A glacier and rock collapse Wednesday sent water, mud, and debris through Nepal’s Rasuwa District, destroying villages and leaving some areas under 5 to 6 feet of mud. Nepal Police said 553 bodies had been recovered as of Friday, while about 90 Americans remained unaccounted for.

Ohio families are among those waiting for news. Anand Tiwari, president of the Central Ohio Nepali Association, said his cousin, an engineer at a hydropower station in the region, hasn’t been heard from since Wednesday morning.

The association canceled its annual summer picnic and is planning to collect donations. Meanwhile, Matthew 25: Ministries is collecting relief supplies and funds at its Kenwood Road headquarters.

Ohio Dominican Stuns Morehead State

Division II Ohio Dominican stunned Division I FCS Morehead State 42-40 in triple overtime Thursday night in the season opener at Phil Simms Stadium in Morehead, Kentucky.

The Panthers led 34-12 in the fourth quarter before the Eagles scored 22 unanswered points, tying the game at 34 on Anthony Ice’s 9-yard touchdown catch with 1:07 remaining.

Neither team scored in the first overtime. Morehead State scored first in the second but missed its two-point try, and Ohio Dominican answered when Carson Parker hit Conner Campbell for a 27-yard touchdown on fourth-and-12 before missing its own conversion.

Parker ran for the deciding two-point conversion in the third overtime, and Morehead State’s final attempt fell incomplete. You can watch highlights of the finish here.
