Buckeyes Visit No. 4 Texas

Top-ranked Ohio State visits No. 4 Texas tonight for the week’s only matchup between ranked teams. The Longhorns are slight 1.5-point favorites for the 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Buckeyes steamrolled Ball State 56-3 in their season opener, with Julian Sayin completing 21 of 25 passes for 320 yards and accounting for four touchdowns. Texas routed Texas State 59-7.

Ohio State will make a record 69th appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay this morning. The Buckeyes are 47-21 with the show on site, winning eight straight.

Ohio State leads the all-time series 3-2 after winning the past two meetings, including a 14-7 win in last season’s opener. Texas last defeated the Buckeyes in the 2009 Fiesta Bowl.

Dorm Heat Prompts Viral Video

A viral TikTok showing students at The Ohio State University sleeping on basement furniture has renewed scrutiny of six residence halls without air conditioning after students reported temperatures above 90 degrees.

Some Mack Hall residents resorted to sleeping on couches and tables in cooler basement spaces, and one student’s video drew more than 200,000 views.

Ohio State placed large fans in hallways, stocked refrigerators with water and frozen treats, and offered one free box fan per room.

About 1,700 of the university’s roughly 14,000 campus residents live in the affected buildings. Trustees approved $4.7 million for a Baker Hall air conditioning project earlier this month.

Armadillo May Be Ohio’s First

A dead armadillo found near Oxford may represent Ohio’s first documented natural arrival, according to Miami University researchers studying the species’ northward movement.

Previous armadillos found dead near Ohio interstate ramps were considered vehicle “hitchhikers.” Researchers believe the Oxford specimen arrived without human help, potentially distinguishing it from those earlier encounters.

Miami University associate professor of biology Tereza Jezkova said researchers don’t yet understand how armadillos are surviving beyond their expected range. She said they have no reason to believe the animals would harm other species in the region.

The specimen is being preserved in a campus laboratory and will eventually be displayed at the Hefner Museum of Natural History.
