Three Lorain police officers were shot Wednesday in what authorities described as an ambush, leaving two in critical condition. Officer Phillip Wagner, 35, died Thursday from his injuries.

Two officers were eating lunch in their patrol cars when 28-year-old Michael Parker opened fire. A third officer was wounded while responding to the scene, and the suspect, Parker, was killed.

Law enforcement recovered rifles, handguns, loaded magazines, and improvised explosive devices from Parker’s vehicle. The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad safely detonated the explosives.

Lorain Police Chief Michael Failing said it was the city’s first major shooting with injured officers in 70 years.
