Article Icon 1Reds Fade in Delayed Speedway Classic

More than 90,000 fans waited an extra day to see the Atlanta Braves defeat the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 in the MLB Speedway Classic on Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.

The game began Saturday night following a lengthy rain delay, but after seven batters and a 1-0 Reds lead, rain pushed the remainder of the game to Sunday afternoon.

It was the first MLB game played in Tennessee and set an all-time league attendance record of 91,032. See a review of the event here.

Eli White provided the offense for the Braves. Reds pitcher and Tennessee native Chase Burns made history with the first-ever MLB strikeout in the Volunteer State.

Article Icon 1 Job Interview No-Shows in Focus

A state lawmaker proposes the creation of an online state registry to track job applicants who miss interviews without giving prior notice.

Already, the state prohibits residents from receiving unemployment benefits if they skip interviews.

Rep. Brian Lorenz, R-Powell, said expanding the tracking to everyone would aid employers, increase applicant accountability, and boost the state’s competitiveness.

Critics say the measure is unneeded and risks penalizing applicants who have emergencies.

Article Icon 1 Car Repo Sparks Legal Fight

A woman whose car was repossessed responded by registering the dealership’s name for herself, forcing the dealership into a court battle.

Tiah McCreary, whose car was repossessed by Taylor Kia of Lima, discovered the dealership had failed to renew its business name registration.

She claimed the name and sent the dealership a cease-and-desist letter. An appeals court ruled McCreary could pursue her claim in court rather than arbitration, as the dealer requested.
