Flash Floods Hit Ross, Pike Counties

Heavy rain touched off flash flooding across Ross and Pike counties Saturday evening, sending crews into the water for rescues that ran well into the night.

In Pike County, floodwater shoved an elderly couple’s mobile home off its foundation along U.S. 23, leaving a watermark 4 feet up the door.

Ross County ran several rescues of its own, with fire departments launching boats as U.S. 23 shut down in both directions near the county line.

The Red Cross opened an evacuation center on Egypt Pike in Chillicothe for families forced from their homes.

Navy Week Returns to Cincinnati

More than 65 sailors came ashore in Cincinnati this weekend for the city’s second-ever Navy Week—with eight days of public events running through Sept. 20.

The visit marks the 10th stop on the Navy’s “Road Trip to 250” anniversary tour and the service’s first return to Cincinnati since 2011. Sailors from the city’s namesake ship, USS Cincinnati, are set to work alongside local commands on community service projects and educational events.

Rear Adm. Matthew Pottenburgh is scheduled to speak tonight at the USS Cincinnati Memorial Peace Pavilion in West Chester. Guided tours of the pavilion open at 5 p.m.

West Chester Township will host a free celebration at the same site Thursday evening, headlined by a flag parachute jump and music from Navy Band Northeast, with food trucks, family crafts, and a bookmobile stocked with titles on the Navy and the nation’s founding.

Bengals, Browns Tackle Week 1

Ohio’s two NFL teams opened their 2026 seasons Sunday, delivering sharply different results against a pair of Florida opponents.

Cincinnati raced to a 21-3 lead over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, scoring its first touchdown of the season on a fumble return. The Bengals then withstood Tampa Bay’s comeback bid to secure a 33-27 victory.

Cleveland’s opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars began poorly when Deshaun Watson threw an interception on the Browns’ first possession. Jacksonville built a 24-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 34-10 victory.

Cleveland will remain in Florida to face Tampa Bay next Sunday, while Cincinnati will visit Houston.
