Six Providers Face Medicaid Charges

Six Ohio Medicaid providers have been indicted on fraud charges and are accused of improperly billing the taxpayer-funded program for a combined $558,383.

Pickerington resident Rasheedah Biles, who owns the Columbus behavioral-health program Reset Tomorrow, is accused of directing employees to inflate claims for children in after-school and summer programs, resulting in a $404,810 loss.

The other defendants are accused of billing for services while working other jobs or when clients were hospitalized, deceased, or otherwise unavailable.

One provider allegedly falsified timesheets while holding a separate full-time job and during a period when she couldn’t work for medical reasons.

Springfield Haitians Face ICE Monitoring

Some Haitians in Springfield who lost Temporary Protected Status (TPS) are being summoned to federal immigration check-ins, where attorneys say some have been arrested, released with ankle monitors, and limited to a 75-mile travel radius while their immigration cases proceed.

Springfield pastor Carl Ruby said some residents surrendered passports when reporting to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices in Blue Ash or Westerville.

Gov. Mike DeWine has urged President Trump to pursue broader immigration reform, saying Ohio needs immigrant workers to support growth. DeWine said immigrants accounted for 60% of the state’s growth during the past 10 years.

An estimated 15,000 Haitians live in the Springfield area under a mix of immigration statuses. The Department of Homeland Security has said that TPS was never intended to be permanent.

Peltz Weighs Wendy’s Takeover

Nelson Peltz’s Trian Fund Management is reportedly preparing a bid to acquire Dublin-based Wendy’s and take it private. An offer could come within weeks, according to Reuters.

Peltz, a longtime Wendy’s investor and former chairman, is reportedly working with BlueFive Capital and Flynn Group, a major Wendy’s franchisee.

The takeover interest comes as Wendy’s tries to reverse a prolonged sales slump. U.S. same-restaurant sales fell 7% in the second quarter, customer traffic dropped 12.5%, and 289 domestic restaurants closed during the first half of the year.

Wendy’s currently lists 388 Ohio locations, down from nearly 400 last year.
