Oktoberfest Zinzinnati Turns 50

Oktoberfest Zinzinnati kicked off this weekend along Cincinnati’s riverfront, with today marking the festival’s longest day of events as it celebrates 50 years of Bavarian tradition.

The golden anniversary celebration features a two-story Glockenspiel modeled on German bell towers, with live performers stepping out to ring in every hour.

Today’s events include the 14K/7K Brewery Run and the World’s Largest Chicken Dance, with tomorrow featuring the Running of the Wieners.

Wendy’s Revives Throwback Branding

Dublin-based Wendy’s will begin serving fries, nuggets, and Frostys in its original yellow packaging on Sept. 28, restoring a look that the chain retired years ago.

Yellow had been part of the brand since Dave Thomas opened the first restaurant in Columbus in 1969, and Wendy’s Chief Marketing and Customer Growth Officer Tariq Hassan said that the return to yellow branding was spurred by constant requests from fans.

Meanwhile, one of Wendy’s largest U.S. franchisees, Meritage Hospitality Group, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The group operates 314 restaurants across 15 states.

Final Victory Bell Up for Grabs

Cincinnati and Miami University meet this afternoon for the 129th Battle for the Victory Bell—the final scheduled game between the two programs.

First played in 1888, the series is the oldest nonconference rivalry in the FBS. That inaugural meeting between the Bearcats and RedHawks was also the first college football game played in Ohio. Cincinnati leads the all-time series 61-60-7.

The Bearcats enter at 2-0 after defeating Boston College and Western Carolina, while the RedHawks are 1-1 following a loss to Pittsburgh and a win over Holy Cross.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at TQL Stadium, home of FC Cincinnati.
