Smith Breaks Ohio State Record

Jeremiah Smith became Ohio State’s all-time leading receiver on Saturday, breaking a record that had stood for more than two decades.

The junior phenom entered the Buckeyes’ home game against Kent State needing 26 yards and got there in the first quarter, hauling in a 23-yard slant from quarterback Julian Sayin. The catch pushed him past Michael Jenkins’ mark of 2,898.

Smith is also within reach of breaking the Big Ten’s all-time receiving yards record, Ohio State’s career receptions record, and Chris Olave’s program record for career touchdown catches.

DeWines Honor Parton at Luncheon

Gov. Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine spent their final First Lady’s Luncheon honoring Dolly Parton and the children’s reading program she brought to Ohio.

Tables inside the new Ohio Agriculture Center at the state fairgrounds were dressed in pastel pink and baby blue Friday afternoon, where country singer Trisha Yearwood was the guest of honor. Yearwood closed the luncheon by singing Parton’s Jolene.

Fran DeWine made the Imagination Library her first priority when her husband took office in 2019, and the program now reaches children in all 88 counties.

“Our work is not done. This is Dolly’s legacy, and it’s our legacy here in Ohio,” she said.

Ohio Parks Highlight Fall Colors List

Two Ohio destinations landed near the top of a national ranking of the best places in America to watch the leaves turn this fall.

Hocking Hills finished No. 2, and Cuyahoga Valley National Park came in at No. 4 on the USA Today 10Best list. Only Michigan’s Upper Peninsula finished ahead of the Hocking Hills.

Cuyahoga Valley packs 33,000 acres of color into more than 125 miles of trails, while Hocking Hills earned its spot on the strength of the “rocky outcroppings and sweeping views” scattered across the region’s parks and natural areas.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will release its first fall color progress map of the season on Sept. 25.
