Van Wert Lands $10B Data Center Campus

Van Wert has landed an historic development deal with QTS Data Centers, signing for a $10 billion campus spanning 902 acres along U.S. 30.

The development is expected to generate roughly 1,500 construction jobs during buildout and approximately 200 permanent positions once the campus is operational.

The data center is projected to deliver $200 million in tax revenue to the region over 20 years, and QTS has agreed to fund 100% of the energy infrastructure upgrades needed to power the campus, marking a significant commitment given the enormous electricity demands of large-scale data center operations.

Van Wert, a small city of roughly 10,000 residents near the Indiana border, is now positioned to become a significant node in America’s growing data infrastructure network.

Ohio Supreme Court Rules Against Olentangy

The Ohio Supreme Court handed down a 6-1 ruling Friday that blocks school districts statewide from challenging property tax valuations on land they don’t own or lease.

The case traces back to a 2022 state law change that eliminated school boards’ ability to appeal valuations to the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals.

The Supreme Court ruled against Olentangy Local Schools which had sued to appeal valuations to county courts.

Property tax assessments are a major funding source for Ohio schools. Olentangy said the ruling could mean fewer resources to run its schools effectively, a concern now shared by districts across the state.

Nationwide Buys Into the Columbus Crew

Nationwide Insurance is acquiring a 37% ownership stake in the Columbus Crew, valuing the club at a landmark $900 million.

Haslam Sports Group, the ownership group that also controls the Cleveland Browns, is selling the minority stake to the Columbus-based Fortune 500 insurer in a deal that marks a significant shift in the Crew’s ownership landscape.

Nationwide has been the Crew’s official jersey and insurance partner since 2021. Now the company transitions from anchor sponsor to part-owner of one of MLS’s highest-valued franchises.

A $900 million valuation puts the Crew among the most valuable clubs in Major League Soccer, reflecting both the league’s rapid ascent and Columbus’s growing sports economy.
