Article Icon 1State, Cincinnati Expand Crime Partnerships

Gov. Mike DeWine announced two new partnerships between the state and Cincinnati aimed at preventing violent crime and expanding support for local enforcement after recent high-profile incidents downtown.

The agreements allow the Ohio State Highway Patrol to coordinate with Cincinnati police and the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction on joint operations.

The Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Force will prioritize violent-crime suspects and people violating release terms. DeWine said the goal is to focus on the “relatively small number” responsible for “80-90% of the violence.”

Earlier this year, DeWine provided the Queen City with assistance from state troopers after downtown violence drew national attention.

A Toledo fisherman received the Carnegie Medal for Heroism after rescuing a woman from the Maumee River around 2 a.m. last July.

Justin Slater was fishing with his father, Randall, when they saw a woman in the water and heard her screaming for help. They called 911, and Justin entered the river and swam about 195 feet to pull the woman to shore.

The Toledo City Council joined the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission in honoring Slater with the Carnegie Medal, among the most respected civilian awards for bravery in the U.S. and Canada.

The Ohio State University Marching Band and Ohio University’s Marching 110 will perform a combined halftime show Saturday during the Buckeyes’ game against the Bobcats at Ohio Stadium.

It’s only the third joint show in OSU band history, following collaborations with the Purdue All-American Marching Band in 1995 and Iowa’s Hawkeye Marching Band in 2022.

Olentangy Orange High School’s director of bands Joshua Boyer, who is also the Marching 110’s primary drill writer, choreographed part of the program.

Kickoff between the Buckeyes and Bobcats is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed on Peacock.

Take a look at any photo from people in the 1970s…

Compare it to today, and you’ll see the difference is staggering.

A single decision that quietly rewired how Americans eat… and completely transformed our metabolism.
