Article Icon 1Outdated Price Tags in Focus

An investigation found that Cincinnati-based grocery chain Kroger allegedly overcharged customers on more than 150 discounted items due to expired discount tags.

Kroger said the report overstated the issue, saying price tags are routinely updated and that the pricing errors represented only a “few dozen examples across several years out of billions of customer transactions annually.”

The investigation, conducted by Consumer Reports, The Guardian, and the Food & Environment Reporting Network, found that outdated tags led to an average overcharge of $1.70 per item, or 18.4%, at more than half of the 26 Kroger stores reviewed.

Customers have filed complaints and class-action lawsuits in multiple states, including Ohio.

Article Icon 1Fewer Children Reported Missing

State Attorney General Dave Yost released the 2024 Ohio Missing Children Clearinghouse Report, revealing that 16,404 children were reported as runaways or otherwise missing statewide last year, which was 1,001 fewer than the prior year.

Of the total, 8,415 were listed as runaway cases, 37 noncustodial-parent abductions, and 9 abductions by strangers. The remaining cases were unspecified. You can read the full report here.

About 96% of the reported missing children were found safe within the year.

To raise awareness about missing children, the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation hosted a Missing Persons Day vigil on Saturday at Wright State University. National Missing Children’s Day will be observed on Saturday.

Article Icon 1Ohio State Football Favored to Repeat

Ohio State is the betting favorite to repeat as the college football national champion on six major sportsbooks, ranked as the sole favorite on three sites and tied with Texas on three others.

The Buckeyes and Longhorns kick off the season against each other on Aug. 30 in Columbus, a rematch of last season’s College Football Playoff semifinal that Ohio State won 28-14.

Other key matchups on Ohio State’s schedule include the season-ending rivalry game at Michigan, a November home game against Penn State, and road games at Washington and Illinois.

Georgia was the last team to win consecutive national titles in 2021 and 2022, while no Big Ten team has repeated since Michigan State in 1965 and 1966.

Zillow’s Co-Founder Has a Big New Idea

Spencer Rascoff co-founded Zillow, scaling it into a $16B real estate giant. But everyday investors couldn’t invest until after the IPO, missing potential early gains.

“I wish we had done a round accessible to retail investors prior to Zillow’s IPO,” Spencer later said.

Now he’s doing just that. Spencer has teamed up with Austin Allison, another Zillow exec, to launch Pacaso. Pacaso’s co-ownership marketplace is disrupting the $1.3T vacation home market. And unlike Zillow, you can invest in Pacaso as a private company.

With $110M+ in gross profits and rapid international expansion, Pacaso is scaling fast. Investors like Softbank, Maveron, and more are already on board. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

But you don’t have to wait. Join them as a Pacaso shareholder for just $2.80/share by 5/29.
