Fire Damages Historic Hotel

Firefighters from multiple departments battled a blaze Tuesday at the historic Hotel McArthur in McArthur, Vinton County’s oldest building still in use.

No injuries were reported, according to officials. Photos and video of the fire are available here.

Built in 1839, the hotel was bought in 2021 by the Vinton County Convention and Visitors Bureau, with a $2.5 million renovation planned.

The new Superman movie highlights several Cincinnati landmarks, including Union Terminal, which doubles as the “Hall of Justice,” and the Lytle Tunnel.

Local fans enjoyed an early screening of the film on Monday ahead of its regular release this Friday.

Cleveland will host a special advance screening on Thursday, recognizing the city’s significant role in the film’s production.

The Superman character was created in Cleveland in 1933 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

‘The Game’ Named Football’s Best Rivalry

Ohio State versus Michigan—known as The Game—was chosen as college football’s best rivalry in a new ranking from The Athletic. The full list is available here.

The Buckeyes and Wolverines first played in 1897. They’ve produced iconic moments such as the Ten Year War between Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler and the 2006 Game of the Century.

Ohio State’s rivalry with Penn State was ranked No. 8. It is the youngest rivalry in the list’s top 10, with the teams having played regularly since 1993.

Another Buckeyes rivalry made the top 100: Illinois. Since 1925, the teams have played for the Illibuck trophy, the second-oldest trophy in the Big Ten.
