Kettering Health Hit by Cyberattack

Kettering Health reported a systemwide technology outage on Tuesday morning due to a cyberattack resulting from unauthorized access to its network.

The outage led to the cancellation of elective inpatient and outpatient procedures for the day. Doctor’s offices and emergency departments remained open.

Kettering operates 14 medical centers at 120 locations across the state, with 1,800 doctors and 15,000 employees.

An outside security expert said the attack appeared to be a ransomware attack where hackers demand money to restore network systems.

Congressman Proposes TDS Study

U.S. Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Hamilton, introduced the Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) Research Act, which calls for a National Institutes of Health study into extreme negative reactions to President Trump.

“TDS has divided families, the country, and led to nationwide violence, including two assassination attempts on President Trump,” Davidson said.

Some professors at The Ohio State University criticized the proposal, noting that TDS is not a medically recognized condition and instead reflects broader political polarization.

Davidson argued NIH should prioritize research into “issues that are relevant to the real world” rather than topics such as the effects of methamphetamine on cats and gambling behaviors in monkeys.

‘I Voted’ Sticker Sparks Copyright Dispute

Emily Cook, an Ohio artist who created the winning “I Voted” sticker for a 2019 contest, claimed Louisiana used her design without permission after spotting a similar image on a Louisiana government website.

The Louisiana Secretary of State’s office did not respond to requests for comment, and Cook began the process of officially registering her copyright. You can see a comparison of the designs here.

Copyright attorney Eric Estadt said Cook may own the copyright since contest rules were ambiguous and did not specify intellectual property transfer, even with an Ohio Secretary of State notice that stated all entries became the state’s property.
