Article Icon 1Bill Targets Doxxing of Ohio Police

Posting a police officer’s home address, birth date, or phone number to intimidate, threaten, or cause physical harm would become a third-degree felony under a new Statehouse bill.

State Rep. Gayle Manning, R-North Ridgeville, introduced the measure after a Lorain police officer faced nationwide online backlash despite being cleared of wrongdoing.

Violators could face up to a $10,000 fine, probation, or prison time. Manning said the bill targets malicious doxxing and harassment, not routine reporting or free speech.

With the legislative session winding down, she plans to reintroduce the bipartisan bill next session if it doesn’t pass this year.
