Article Icon 1State Proposes Accepting Bitcoin

State leaders endorsed a proposal to allow residents to pay certain fees and taxes with cryptocurrency, starting with business filing fees.

The measure would permit—but not require—state agencies to accept crypto payments. The payments would be converted to U.S. dollars to shield the state from market volatility.

Following the announcement, Bitcoin’s price jumped 4.2% in two hours, rising from $68,500 to $71,370.

Critics argue that digital currencies remain too unstable and susceptible to fraud.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins visited Weaver Eggs in Darke County to meet with egg farmers affected by the nation’s bird flu outbreak.

Ohio ranks No. 2 in the nation in egg production.

Rollins and Gov. Mike DeWine discussed the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s response to the outbreak, including enhanced biosecurity, regulatory reform, and support for repopulation.

While in the county, Rollins also visited a local farm to observe the 360 Rain system, an irrigation method that applies manure directly to crop roots to boost soil health.

The Queen City launched the Cincinnati Regional Sports Commission to coordinate bids for major sporting events, including the 2028 NFL Draft.

The city approved a $250,000 contribution and Hamilton County allocated $150,000 to the initiative. Visit Cincy CEO Julie Calvert said additional funding will come from private sources, but she didn’t provide any specifics.

The commission’s board and executive committee include members from the Cincinnati Business Committee, Kroger, Procter & Gamble, and other organizations.

The 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay drew about 600,000 attendees and generated an estimated $20 million in local revenue.
