Two Ohio lawmakers helped lead the push for the federal tax deduction for interest on loans to buy new American-made vehicles.

The USA Car Act, co-sponsored by U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Westlake, and U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor, R-Clermont County, is included in the federal budget President Trump signed into law.

Buyers can deduct up to $10,000 annually in loan interest for qualifying American-made cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, vans, and motorcycles. Eligibility details are available here.

The law is retroactive to January, allowing those who’ve purchased eligible vehicles since the start of the year to claim interest on their tax returns.
