Article Icon 1MLB Lifts Pete Rose Ban

Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday removed the late Pete Rose from the league’s permanently ineligible list, ending a 35-year ban and making Rose eligible for posthumous election into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

“Shoeless” Joe Jackson and other deceased players were also reinstated, with Manfred ruling that lifetime bans no longer apply after a player’s death. The decision follows a petition by attorney Jeffrey Lenkov and public support from President Donald Trump.

Rose, banned in 1989 for betting on games while managing the Cincinnati Reds, died in September 2024 at age 83. His family plans to petition the Hall of Fame for his induction. The Hall’s Classic Baseball Era selection committee is scheduled to meet next in December 2027.

Article Icon 1State AG Appeals Social Media Ruling

State Attorney General Dave Yost appealed a federal judge’s ruling that struck down an Ohio law requiring social media companies to obtain parental consent for users under 16.

In April, U.S. District Judge Algenon L. Marbley ruled in favor of NetChoice, a social media trade group that argued the law was vague and violated free speech protections.

The law mandated age verification through government-issued ID, credit card information, or digital consent forms.

Meanwhile, state lawmakers are considering a new bill to require parental consent via app stores instead of individual social media platforms.

Cleveland Clinic will require patients to pay copays before or during check-in for office visits, therapy, diagnostic testing, and other nonemergency outpatient services.

This policy takes effect starting June 1 and does not apply to emergency care, surgeries, inpatient stays, cancer treatments, urgent care visits, or patients covered by Medicaid.

The change will help ensure the health system’s financial sustainability, Cleveland Clinic officials said.
