Article Icon 1OSU, UC Under Investigation for Antisemitism

Two Ohio universities are among the 60 colleges under investigation for alleged antisemitic discrimination and harassment.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) sent letters to The Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati, warning them of possible “enforcement actions” for Title VI violations if they do not protect Jewish students on campus.

Allegations of harassment and violence against Jewish students at Ohio State were reported following the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023.

A November 2023 complaint at Cincinnati stated incidents included fecal matter being smeared on the door of a Jewish fraternity and an “ally against antisemitism” yard sign being burned.

Members of the Ohio National Guard and Ohio Cyber Reserve responded to the attack and completed their mission on Feb. 28, though no specifics have been provided about their efforts.

All cases previously set for March 12 will go on as scheduled, and criminal and civil proceedings postponed by the closure will take place “no less than 30 days after the Court reopens.”

More than 350,000 inactive voter registrations could be purged from Ohio’s voter rolls by September, Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s office announced.

LaRose said affected voters were sent a “Registration Readiness Notice” and encouraged them to check their voter registration status to ensure it’s updated by the Sept. 23 deadline (Sept. 29 for Lucas County).

Ohioans can avoid inactive status by voting, updating or confirming their information, or responding to mailed notices.

Officials said no registrations will be terminated before the May primary election.
